COTRONEI Mariantonia

Mariantonia Cotronei is Associate Professor of Numerical Analysis (SSD MATH-05/A) at the University of Reggio Calabria. Her research focuses on approximation theory, wavelet analysis, numerical methods for signal and image processing, subdivision schemes, and numerical optimization. She graduated summa cum laude in Mathematics from the University of Messina and earned a Ph.D. in Mathematics from the Catania-Messina-Palermo consortium. After working as a postdoctoral fellow/research associate at the University of Messina, she obtained a permanent position as Assistant Professor at the University of Reggio Calabria in 2005 and was promoted to Associate Professor in 2022. In 2024, she received the Italian National Scientific Qualification as Full Professor in Numerical Analysis. M.C. is a member of the Ph.D. board in Information Engineering and has taken part in numerous research projects, including international ones. In particular, she is the local coordinator for the H2020 EU project “EXPOWER”. M.C. has published extensively in peer-reviewed international journals, collaborating with several researchers, and has been invited as a speaker at several national and international conferences. She holds institutional roles, including Rector’s Delegate for Monitoring and Analysis of Strategic Indicators and Vice-Coordinator of the University Quality Panel (PQA). From 2021 to 2023, she coordinated the Italian research network RITA and served on the scientific and organizing committees of several international conferences, including the SMART (Int. Conference on Subdivision, Geometric and Algebraic Methods, Isogeometric Analysis and Refinability in Italy) series. She is a member of INdAM-GNCS, UMI (TAA group), SIMAI (AN&A group), and SIAM. M.C. is a reviewer for several journals, serves on the editorial boards of Scientific Reports (Springer) and Frontiers in Applied Mathematics and Statistics, and has worked as a guest editor for special issues.
