ISERNIA Tommaso

T. Isernia graduated (with honors) in Electronic Engineering at Università di Napoli Federico II in 1988, where he was later a PhD student , Assistant Professor, and Associate Professor.

Since 2005 he is a Full Professor of Electromagnetic Fields at Università Mediterranea, where he has been the Head of DIIES, which is now in the restricted list of ‘Dipartimenti di Eccellenza’ by the Italian Ministry for research.
He founded and leads the ‘LEMMA Group @Università Mediterranea. All research products presented by LEMMA in the last ‘Valutazione della Qualità della Ricerca’ (2014-2019) by the Italian Ministry for Research have been classified as ‘Excellent and extremely relevant’, which has been obtained by just three research groups in Italy (including all discipliones).

Research activities of T. Isernia are focused on non-linear inverse problems in electromagnetics. Their interest is witnessed by roughly 180 publications on well reputed scientific jourrnals, and an h-index equal to 50 (Scopus). Tommaso Isernia is an IEEE Fellow since 2022.

He has been the coordinator or scientific responsible of many funded research projects. as well as the scientific responsible for the overall University for the submission of University-wide research projects. He has served as Dean of the studies in Ingegneria dell'Informazione @ Mediterranea , member of 'Consiglio di Amministrazione' of the University, member of the Board of Administrators of CNIT (the Italian Universities Consortium for Telecommunications), as well as the Coordinator of the PhD studies in ‘Ingegneria dell’Informazione’ and senatore accademico.

He was the recipient of the ‘Barzilai Award’ of the Italian Electromagnetics Society (SIEM) in 1994. Later, several PhD students supervised by Prof. Isernia have been also awarded with the same recognition. He is the co-recipient, with M.T. Bevacqua, of the IEEE Transactions on Antennas and Propagation R.W.P. King Award.
