EDUCATION AND TRAINING
In March 2015, I obtained a PhD in “Engineering Science – Electrical Engineering” from KU Leuven (Belgium), with biomedical applications. The degree was recognized by the Italian Ministry of Education (MIUR) in 2018. My dissertation, “Development of contactless health monitoring sensors and integration in wireless sensor networks”, focused on the development of contactless sensors and radar systems for remote monitoring of vital parameters and fall detection, with an emphasis on RF and microwave electronics.
In 2010, I qualified as a Professional Engineer – Section A at the University of Calabria, where I earned a Master’s Degree in Electronic Engineering (110/110 cum laude, 2009) and a Bachelor’s Degree (110/110 cum laude, 2006), with theses in advanced electronic devices and wireless systems for biomedical signals.
PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
Since December 2023, I have been Associate Professor at the University Mediterranea of Reggio Calabria (DIIES), SSD ING-INF/06 – Electronic and Information Bioengineering.
From 2021 to 2023, I was Assistant Professor (RTDA) at the University of Calabria (DIMES), working on biomedical radar and algorithms for patient monitoring.
From 2015 to 2021, I worked as Senior Researcher at imec The Netherlands (Holst Centre, Eindhoven), founding the program “Radar-based Non-contact Sensing”. I coordinated the development of radar systems and algorithms for contactless remote patient monitoring, contributing to the realization of an 8 GHz UWB radar with high energy efficiency, awarded at ISSCC 2019.
SCIENTIFIC ACTIVITY
My scientific activity focuses on devices, systems, and algorithms for biomedical applications, integrating electronic design with advanced signal processing and machine learning techniques. I have been among the pioneers in the use of radar for non-invasive remote monitoring of vital parameters and automatic fall detection.
