Schepis Francesca

Francesca Schepis (1977), architect, RtdB in CEAR-09/A - Architectural and Urban Composition at the Department of Architecture and Design in Reggio Calabria. Since 2003, she has been constantly engaged in teaching and university research. PhD in 2009 with the thesis "Il Massiccio del Monte Bianco di Viollet-le-Duc e l'Etna. Iconografia come progetto" (The Mont Blanc Massif by Viollet-le-Duc and Etna. Iconography as a project). Researcher in 2011 for PRIN 2008 - "Regeneration of marginal urban fabrics and contexts"; in 2014-15 and 2016-17 for the PARCO research project - Observatory on housing policies; in 2019-22 on POR 2014-2020 with the programme "TECHNIQUES AND FORMS OF ENERGY. Sustainable living in Calabria". Scientific director of the travelling design seminar VILLARD for UniRC. Currently involved in PRIN PNRR 2022 research - "Confiscated assets in transition. From anti-city to third heritage" and PON Research and Innovation 2014-2020 - "GENESIS_GEstioNE del rischio SISmico" (Seismic Risk Management) for the tourist enhancement of historic centres in Southern Italy.
She combines theoretical research with constant practice in architectural design. As lecturer and supervisor at various international summer schools and design workshops, she participates in national and international competitions, published and presented at architecture exhibitions. In 2020, she received the "In/Arch – ANCE Calabria Award" for the creation of a spiritual centre in Cosenza.
For the Tararà publishing house, in the series “di monte in monte”, she edited the first Italian translation of Viollet-le-Duc's "Il massiccio del Monte Bianco", followed by reflections in "NATURE RAISONNÉE. Alcuni principî della teoria architettonica di Viollet-le-Duc sul Monte Bianco".
