Overview

Date/time interval

Primo Ciclo Semestrale (21/09/2026 - 11/12/2026)

Syllabus

Course Objectives

Knowledge and understanding -Students will understand the techniques for limit state design and the reinforcement/construction details of reinforced concrete and steel structures.

Applying knowledge and understanding - Students will acquire the ability to develop a complete structural project, including the structural calculation report, limit state verifications (DLS - Damage Limitation State, ULS - Ultimate Limit State for seismic verification), and the drafting of working drawings and construction details.

Making judgements- Students will develop autonomy in evaluating design choices regarding seismic safety, constructability, and the appropriateness of the adopted solutions.

Communication skills- Students will acquire the ability to effectively communicate the results of their structural design project.

Learning skills -The course stimulates autonomous learning, allowing students to deepen their knowledge of advanced structural design techniques. They will be able to apply and adapt theoretical knowledge to various practical cases, continuing to develop their skills in future professional contexts.

Course Prerequisites

no prerequisites are required

Teaching Methods

Lectures, exercises, and practical activities are included. Visits to construction sites are also planned.

Assessment Methods

The oral exam includes a discussion of the exercises completed during the year. The exam aims to assess whether the student has gained knowledge and understanding of the course topics, as well as interpretative skills and independent judgment in specific cases. The passing threshold is considered reached if the student demonstrates sufficient knowledge and understanding of the topics and shows the ability to apply this knowledge effectively to real-world problems.

Grades:

- 30 cum laude: achievement of a comprehensive understanding of the topics covered, presented with critical thinking and more

than appropriate language;

- 28–30: knowledge not memorized; excellent synthesis and analysis skills; correct language;

- 25–27: knowledge not memorized; good synthesis and analysis skills; correct, but not entirely

appropriate language;

- 22–24: knowledge mostly memorized; synthesis and analysis skills not perfectly accomplished;

partially appropriate language;

- 18-21: sufficient knowledge of the topics, with some gaps in knowledge and/or inappropriate language;

- Insufficient: significant gaps in knowledge; inadequate knowledge of the topics; inability to present concepts in a

comprehensive manner.

Texts

- Edifici antisismici in cemento armato - III edizione - Autori: Aurelio Ghersi - Pietro Lenza; Editore: Dario Flaccovio;

- Progetto delle strutture in calcestruzzo armato. Con l'Eurocodice 2 e le norme tecniche per le costruzioni 2018 - Autori: Franco Angotti; Matteo Guiglia; Piero Marro; Maurizio Orlando; Editore: Hoepli.

- Strutture di acciaio. Teoria e progetto - Autori: Claudio Bernuzzi, Giulio Ballio, Federico Mazzolani, Raffaele Landolfo - Editore Hoepli.

Contents

The program provides an organic and integrated approach to structural design in both static and seismic contexts, maintaining a solid balance between theory, building codes, design practice, computational tools, and attention to detailing. Development of a complete structural project, including the structural calculation report, working drawings, and construction details.
