Vicari Aversa Clara

Born in Messina on 2 September 1971.

She graduated magna cum laude from the Faculty of Architecture of the University of Reggio Calabria in 1995 with a thesis in Architectural Design, supervisor prof. arch. Franco Cardullo, external supervisor prof. arch. Giuseppe Rebecchini.

In 2003, at the Escuela Técnica Superior de Arquitectura de San Sebastián, U.P.V. Spain, -where she was admitted in 1997 to the research doctorate ‘Idea Forma y Materia’-, she obtained the title of European PhD in Architectural Design with the grade of Sobresaliente cum Laude por unamimidad. (European PhD thesis entitled ‘La tierra y el mar. La arquitectura en el borde litoral’, under the guidance of prof. arch. César Portela -1999 National Prize for Architecture, 2023 Gold Medal for Architecture and prof. E.T.S.A. de La Coruña- and prof. arch. Xavier Unzurrunzaga -E.T.S.A. de San Sebastián-, in commission: Álvaro Siza -Oporto-, Carlos Martí Aris -Barcelona-, Antonio Barrionuevo -Sevilla-, Yago Bonet -Madrid-, Alberto Ustarroz -San Sebastián-, Antón López de Aberàsturi -San Sebastián, Manuel De Las Casas -Madrid-).
Since graduation she has collaborated in university teaching and research activities both in Italy and abroad.
Since 1995 she has worked at the Faculty of Architecture of the Università degli Studi Mediterranea di Reggio Calabria, in various Architectural Design Laboratories, first as a voluntary assistant, then in 1997 as a winner of the competition for tutor, in 1999 she was appointed as an expert in the subject, from 2000 to 2008 as a contract professor - having won the relative competitions each year - and since 2004 as a research assistant - having won two research grants at the DASTEC Department of the same University - with tutor prof. arch. Laura Thermes.
For many years she has also collaborated with the Escuela Técnica Superior de Arquitectura de San Sebastián_ETSASS, Universidad del Paìs Vasco_U.P.V/EHU, Spain, with the professors of which she has had a fruitful collaboration since 1997 - the year she was admitted to the Spanish PhD programme -, teaching ordinary courses and master's degrees, and collaborating in research at the Departamento de Arquitectura of the same University.

She has been carrying out scientific research activities continuously since his student days at university, also thanks to the award of several pre- and post-graduate scholarships - Erasmus, Erasmus Intensive Program, EDIS scholarships for degree theses, Bonino-Pulejo Foundation and Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs with Spanish Ministerio de Los Asuntos Exteriores, etc. - at Italian and foreign universities, with public bodies and with private subjects, at national and international level - also coordinating research groups -, in groups and individually.

She speaks as rapporteur and/or moderator at various national and international conferences; he participates as a tutor and/or lecturer in various design workshops both in Italy and abroad; She takes care of the organisation and setting up of various exhibitions, conferences, meetings, workshops, seminars, both in Italy and abroad -including the organisation of various editions of LId'A-Laboratorio Internazionale d'Architettura, held annually in various different municipalities in Calabria, and of the Seminario Internacional de Projecto de Arquitectura of the Faculdade de Arquitectura da Universidade Técnica de Lisboa, held annually in the FAUTL in the Portuguese capital.

A passionate scholar, she is an expert in waterfront architecture and waterfront redevelopment, topics for which she has obtained several research grants both in Italy and Spain. She has realised several architectural projects both in Italy and abroad. Her design activity, oriented towards experimentation related to architectural and urban design problems, is also developed through her participation, together with other Italian and foreign architects - over the years her studio has also hosted 4 Spanish architects with the European Leonardo da Vinci Programme - in numerous national and international design competitions, winning prizes in both categories, and is documented in various publications and exhibitions - including the exhibition ‘Italian Architects under 50’ at the Milan Triennale in 2005-.
In 2000, she was elected to the board of directors of the new provincial section of In/Arch - National Institute of Architecture - Messina section, of which she is also a founding member.
In 2003, together with other architects, she founded the cultural association +XM plusform; an association that was set up with the aim of questioning, investigating and fuelling the debate on the conditions of contemporary architecture, and which edits the ‘Dialoghi di Architettura’ series of six-monthly/annual monographic volumes written in the form of interviews, and with which she organises, directs and coordinates research groups.
Since 2010 she has been a member of the new editorial board of ‘Rivista’, the quarterly magazine of the Order of Architects PPC of the Province of Messina, ISSN 2039-1390.
Since 2021 she has been elected Councillor and Vice-President of the Order of Architects, Planners, Landscapers and Conservators of the Province of Messina, with responsibilities for Foreign Affairs, Urban Regeneration, Waterfront and Promotion of Architecture.
Since 2022 she has been a member of the National Working Group ‘Communication’, set up by the CNAPPC_Consiglio Nazionale degli Architetti Pianificatori, Paesaggisti e Conservatori.
Since 2023 she has been a member of the Board of Directors of the Fondazione Architetti nel Mezzogiorno in Messina.
Since 2023 he has been a member of the Scientific Editorial Committee of the Editorial Series ‘APeT _ Architecture, Landscape and Territory, dialogues between complexity and innovation’, Le Penseur, Brienza. ISSN 2974-9301.
She was awarded prizes and recognitions for his research activities, in particular her doctoral thesis received a special mention at the XII International Seminar and Award for Architecture and Urban Culture ‘Paesaggi d'Architettura Mediterranea - spazi di relazione e di vita sociale’, and was a finalist and selected for the second stage at the V Concurso bienal de Tesis Doctorales de Arquitectura de la Fundación Caja de Arquitectos, Barcelona, Spain.
She obtained, in 2000, from the Subdirección General de Títulos, Convalidaciones y Homologaciones del Ministerio de Educación, Cultura y Deporte of the Spanish Government, the Reconocimiento of the Italian title of architect to exercise the profession in Spain, in accordance with European Union Directives and, in 2002, also the issue of the Homologación of the title of arquitecto.
She has an excellent knowledge of the Spanish language -attested also by the D.E.L.E., Diploma Superior de Español como Lengua Extranjera, Instituto Cervantes, obtained in Spain in 1999-, a good knowledge of English and an elementary knowledge of French.
