abstract:
The Codex Romano Carratelli is part of a wider work intended to document the defensive improvement of South Italy against Turks and Barbary pirates. It is about a reconnaissance along Calabria Ultra’s coasts to verify the situation, identify the places in need of defense and choose the ones to fortify. By the examination of the manuscript I tried to reconstruct how the “visit” was accomplished and the response they gave to the former defenses and to the project to realize.
