IMPERFECT GEOMETRIES: THE DOMES OF THE BASILICA OF SS. PIETRO AND PAOLO IN CASALVECCHIO, MESSINA

The theme of this article is twofold. In fact the instrumental survey, which increases the documentation of the building, is accompanied by a reflection on the underlying geometries. The latter allowed some reflections on the distance between the theoretical form and realization of the basilica but also on the way of designing, tracing and constructing the church itself. The research phases therefore include the survey, the description of some formal aspects of the basilica, plans, elevations and sections, and the analysis of the elementary geometries underlying the construction of the two domes and the connections between the span and the drum.
