Abstract:
The present study has identified as a privileged area of research the Calabria Region where, at the moment, the information relating to the extraction sector is still too little detailed. The Legambiente’s official 2021 report indicates 237 active quarries but there are no census both for the illegal nor one for the abandoned sites, except for a partial census which certifies 49 abandoned quarries. In the Calabria Region there is no DBMS/Gis system for the continuous monitoring of the extraction sites, nor for managing the processes relating to their recovery and renaturation. Based on Regional Law 40.2009, the extraction activities can be authorized by the Municipality, in according with Extract Activity Regional Observatory, for a period not exceeding twenty years. When the extraction activity ends the problem of the environmental recovery of the site arises. This work supports some quarry appraisal procedures by providing as key elements: an economic spatialized DB and a first step of an evaluation model for environmental recovery and renaturation for extraction sites at end of activity. The environmental interventions are important for the corresponding work processes and their unit costs based on regional price lists.
