Abstract:
The article proposes a multidisciplinary perspective to address cur- rent challenges related to territory and society, focusing on the crucial role of ecosystem services, particularly vegetal heritage, in preserving the quality of urban organisms. Through an analysis of dynamics in contemporary cities, the impor- tance of thoughtful and life-oriented design for the conservation of Territorial Heritage is emphasized. The latter, understood as a social network coordinating resources, knowledge, and biodiversity, holds a central position in the preserva- tion and transmission of values. Spaces designated as “public goods” and the network of designed nature emerge as fundamental pillars for metropolitan well- being, simultaneously addressing both environmental and social challenges. The proposed study model is based on Territorial Strategy Laboratories, conceived as innovation centers integrating operational research on local heritage and sus- tainable management of vegetal heritage. The objective is to arrive at a shared vision that promotes historical continuity and encourages inclusive and sustain- able planning through collaboration among communities, institutions, and the third sector. In conclusion, an interdisciplinary approach is proposed, represented by the Territorial Strategy Laboratories model, to address the issue of small centers expe- riencing demographic decline. This highlights the ongoing commitment to promot- ing sustainability, active community participation in creating nature in cities, and the conservation of Territorial Heritage through thoughtful and shared co-designs.
