The 1783 earthquacke was the one of the most devastanting in the history of calabria. Many people died and a large numebr of towns and villages was completely destroyed. Reconstruction was begun by the Bourbon governement The new towuns and villages were built with widw roads and low one or two story buildings employing new tecnologies that made use of wood, stell and stone.
