The three ancient city,
form crow flies, an arc in the middle of Tunisia, near Algeria. You can get there from Tozeur by the road connecting Gafsa, via
Metlaoui, which branched another “ring” way, that circumnavigates a mountainous area. It cross Hamma and, after a desert area,
along the Chott El Gharsa, you get to Chebika and then, going up, to Tamerza. This ring continues to Redeyef to land again in Metlaoui.
After Tamerza, the route continues towards Mides. The original settlement of these three cities is now abandoned, but the
oasis of each is still a living space, and above all, a productive space; if not, the desert regain oases. These settlement are example
of urban complexity; places that represent not only their image but also the culture they represent. Paths, walls scenes, textures,
combinations ... “become signs understandable even for those do not “talk” about that architecture”. Urban layout is unique and
each is built through a strict relationship between architecture and place/landscape. Three oasis-cities different from all other in Tunisia.
Placed on the edge of the great salt lake (Chott El Djerid) that almost divided into two parts the territory of Tunisia. The
mountain oases of Chebika, Tamerza and Mides, are located about 70 km from Nefta along a path that runs through desert areas.
