Object of this paper is emptiness or, rather, an empty landscape-albeit only apparently so. It is an immaculate canvas of disappearing colors and invisible inks, on palettes of easy
oblivion: the sea.
Not the coastline: the open sea. An improper landscape whose anthropic engram is writ in impermanent signs; as the volatile wakes of vessels crossing its surface, or the whirlpools
where they sink.
Object of this paper is the Italian sea, paysage turning into passage of men and women, site where the opposite routes of history mark an intimate part of our national identity.
