Course Objectives

The Transport Systems Engineering course is all about studying transport systems and how they work. It looks at how they work by looking at the different parts that make them up. Transport systems are made up of lots of different parts, and these parts affect each other in many ways, often in a non-linear way, with lots of interactions and feedback loops. The course aims to provide the basic tools for simulating transport systems that are useful for designing them. This is done by looking at how transport supply changes based on demand.

The course aims to teach students the following skills.

Knowledge and understanding: know the basic rules of road traffic engineering with fixed demand.

Ability to apply knowledge: knowing how to use what you've learned: the ability to look closely at and recreate how transport systems work when they're not moving.

Autonomy of judgement: development of independent decision-making.

Communication skills: ability to explain the reasons why transport systems are designed the way they are, including how they work together to meet supply and demand in stationary and static conditions.

Learning ability: ability to learn on your own the basic characteristics of the variables and models that are used to calculate the performance of transport systems.

Teaching Methods

The course is made up of lectures and exercises in Italian. The course programme is followed in lessons, with the educational objectives in mind. The stuff we talk about in class will be made easier to understand with exercises that will help you learn more and remember what we talked about.

Assessment Methods

Assessment of learning outcomes is done through an oral exam. To pass the exam, you need to score at least 18/30. This means you have to show that you know the subject well enough to pass. If you get between 19/30 and 20/30, you have sufficient skills and knowledge. You'll get a mark between 21/30 and 24/30 if you show moderate skills and knowledge. If you get between 25/30 and 30/30, you've shown that you've got good skills and knowledge. You can get an "Lode" if you show that you have excellent skills and knowledge.
