Syllabus

Course Objectives

Course aims to achieve the following learning objectives, structured according to the Dublin Descriptors:

1. (knowledge and understanding) advanced knowledge and understanding of the main institutions of both international and national Sport System to develop original ideas, including research purposes.

2. (applying knowledge and understanding) Ability to apply knowledge in the management of sports system and institutions, with particular reference to management of sports clubs, sports employment/workers contracts, organization and management of sports events and competitions, as well as aspects relating to illegal and pathological iussues in sport (doping, violence, match fixing).

3. (making judgments) ability to gather and integrate knowledge within the complexity of the sport system; formulate independent judgments and understand their ethical and social implications; critical-reflective skills, ability to evaluate the quality and value of sports phenomena and potential applications and developments.

4. (communication skills) ability to communicate information, ideas, problems, and solutions to specialist and non-specialist audiences; communication and interpersonal skills applicable to sports communication.

5. (learning skills) ability to learn in order to manage professional activities and projects that require planning and decision-making responsibility; development of autonomous learning ability (learning to learn ability)


Course Prerequisites

Basic concepts of public and private law.


To facilitate approach to private law issues, introductory lectures on the basic principles/institutes of private law are planned.


Teaching Methods

Lectures and seminars held by lecturer/professor as well as laboratory activities with professionals from the legal-sports field


Assessment Methods

Oral interview


The expected learning outcomes will be assessed at the end of the course through an oral exam/interview.


The assessment criteria used for learning outcomes include:

- completeness and relevance of the knowledge acquired

- ability to connect content and connect it to real-world work situations in the context in question

- proficiency in the use of legal vocabulary and legal terminology regarding Sport system

- ability to critically analyze the proposed institutions and issues.

 

The oral exam is designed to test knowledge of the course content and the ability to present it with mastery of the topics.

Grades will be expressed in thirtieths and will therefore range from 18/30 to 30/30 with honours, depending on the level of proficiency demonstrated in the oral exam.

The grading table is as follows:

"Excellent": Exam demonstrates in-depth, complete, and accurate knowledge of the content, with mastery of legal language.

"Good": Exam demonstrates a good level of knowledge of the sports law's topics, the ability to connect them, and demonstrates mastery of legal language.

"Fair": Exam demonstrates an overall adequate knowledge of the sports law's content and appropriate use of legal language.

"Satisfactory": Exam demonstrates a basic understanding of the course content, with an approximate and imprecise use of legal language.

"Insufficient": Exam demonstrates a lack of knowledge of the most basic concepts and difficulty navigating the course content, as well as a presentation lacking legal language.

1) Evolution of the sports system; sport in the 20th and 21st centuries: the history of the Olympics as a mirror of socioeconomic history; sporting activity between social and market values; sportswashing as a phenomenon of political propaganda and economic promotion of local areas.


2) The sports system as a legal system: (multiple) subjects, regulation, and organization.


3) The international sports system (outline). The Italian sports system: institutions, legal rules and organization. The subjects of the national sports system.


4) Athletes, associations, and sports institutions.


5) Sports performance as a work activity; profiles of the "new" sports work after the reform. Employment contracts and employment relationships in sport. Sports agents and mandate contracts in sport.


6) The kinesiologist and other career opportunities for graduates in sports science.


7) Illegal behavior, sporting offenses, liability, and sanctions. An overview of sports justice.


8) Civil and criminal liability issues in sports


9) Overview of criminal law in sports: doping, match manipulation, illegal sports betting, and violence at sporting events.
