Overview

Date/time interval

Ciclo Annuale Unico (22/09/2025 - 30/04/2026)

Syllabus

Course Objectives

Through the unfolding of the lessons and the related topics, the student will have access to the different representation techniques and to the different applications that have been made of these in the field of art, industrial design and graphics.

The student will be able to apply, re-elaborating them, the methodologies learned to a case study agreed with the teacher. He will be able to find and select the data and information useful for carrying out his communication project.

Communication skills will be central in the training of the student who, at the end of the course, will be able to elaborate communication strategies appropriate to the reference target and elaborate them graphically in an appropriate and creative way. The skills acquired during the course will make the student autonomous in the implementation of his skills.

Course Prerequisites

The course, placed in the first year, does not include particular prerequisites necessary for the student.

Teaching Methods

The teaching will be divided into theoretical lessons, laboratory exercises, study seminars, according to a didactic calendar divided into three sections.

The first phase will be dedicated to the fundamentals of the discipline: basic notion of drawing, color theories.

The second phase will deal with drawing techniques for communication: collage, assisted drawing, lettering.

The third phase will be dedicated to direct experimentation of the studied techniques through applied approaches.

Knowledge and understanding

Students will have to learn how to analyze images and how to make their compositional methods their own.

Ability to apply knowledge and understanding: The ability to apply knowledge is verified in the graphics required for the final exam.

The independence of judgment is verified in the design choices adopted.

Communication skills the technical tools of communication and drawing will make up the student's new communication skills.

Assessment Methods

Method of evaluation

The exam is individual. It can be accessed after verifying the minimum attendance required by the course and after passing a graphic pre-exam, held before each exam session. The papers produced during the course and the topics covered in the theoretical lessons will be the subject of the oral exam.

Voting:

30 - 30 cum laude: excellent ability to graphically conceive and develop a communication and representation project in the field of design;

excellent language and communication skills also on different registers (drawing, presentation, etc.);

26-29: good ability to conceive and graphically develop a project of communication and representation in the field of design; good ability to articulate a specialized discourse also through different communicative registers;

22 - 25: Sufficient ability to graphically conceive and develop a communication and representation project in the field of design, as well as to articulate a specialized discourse;

18-21: Minimum ability to graphically conceive and develop a communication and representation project in the field of design

Insufficient: strong difficulties in conceiving and developing a project; strong training gaps; inability to apply the acquired knowledge; inappropriate language.

Course Objective

The course aims to develop the skills necessary to transform a real object into a digital model (reverse modelling), focusing on the individual modeling of a simple-shaped vase. The object serves as a reference for applications of descriptive geometry and conventional representations (plan, elevation, section).

The course also explores three-dimensional representation through axonometric and perspective projections, using both traditional and digital drawing tools.

Course Structure

The course activities are organized into three main phases:

  1. Fundamentals of Drawing and Color Theory
  • Study of the basics of graphic representation and color perception.
  1. Representation Techniques for Communication
  • Collage and visual composition.
  • Computer-aided drawing (CAD, digital tools).
  • Lettering and graphic presentation.
  1. Applied Experimentation through Design Projects
  • Practical application of learned concepts in individual assignments.
  • Production of coherent 2D and 3D models.
Skills Developed

1. Knowledge and Understanding

  • Understanding the principles of graphic representation and descriptive geometry.
  • Comprehending the compositional logic of images and the processes of transforming real objects into digital models.

2. Applying Knowledge and Understanding

  • Creating 2D and 3D graphic works (plan, elevation, section, axonometry, perspective).
  • Using analog and digital tools effectively for representation and communication.

3. Making Judgements

  • Critically analyzing the object and design choices.
  • Evaluating the consistency and effectiveness of graphic solutions.

4. Communication Skills

  • Clearly and effectively communicating projects through drawing.
  • Presenting and arguing the design work.

5. Learning Skills

  • Developing autonomous learning through design practice.
  • Critically reviewing one’s own work and progressively gaining independence in the use of representation tools and methods.
Assessment Methods
  • Evaluation of graphic works produced during the course.
  • Critical discussion of works in the final exam.
  • Assessment criteria: methodological correctness, graphic quality, design consistency, and ability to argue and present the work.
