Syllabus

Course Objectives

Acquisition of knowledge of the corrosion and degradation processes of the main families of materials.

In-depth study of material degradation, indicating the most suitable technological tools to assess and prevent its effects.


Course Prerequisites

Chemistry – Materials Science and Technology


Teaching Methods

Lectures. Laboratory exercises.


Assessment Methods

Written and oral exam.

Grading will be based on the student's ability to analyze the forms and causes of degradation of different types of materials, and to prevent and/or delay degradation processes due to specific aggressive environments.

A passing grade will be achieved when the student demonstrates knowledge and understanding of the topics covered, at least in general terms, and has demonstrated application knowledge useful for solving specific cases.

The final grade will be awarded according to the following evaluation criteria:

30 - 30 cum laude: complete, in-depth and critical knowledge of the topics, excellent command of language, complete and original interpretative skills, fully capable of independently applying knowledge to solve the proposed problems;

26-29: complete and in-depth knowledge of the topics, full command of language, complete and effective interpretative skills, fully capable of independently applying knowledge to solve the proposed problems;

24-25: Knowledge of the topics with a good level of understanding, good command of language, correct and confident interpretation skills, ability to correctly apply most of the knowledge to solve the proposed problems;

21-23: Adequate knowledge of the topics, but lack of mastery, satisfactory command of language, correct interpretation skills, limited ability to independently apply the knowledge to solve the proposed problems;

18-20: Basic knowledge of the main topics, basic knowledge of technical language, sufficient interpretation skills, ability to apply the basic knowledge acquired;

Insufficient: The student does not possess an acceptable knowledge of the topics covered during the course.
