Syllabus

Course Objectives

By the end of the course, students are expected to have acquired the following skills, knowledge, and competencies:

Knowledge and Understanding:

  • Understand the risk factors associated with atypical emotional, affective, and relational development.
  • Acquire the necessary skills to analyze social realities.

Applied Knowledge and Understanding:

  • Identify and analyze various developmental aspects of atypical growth, recognizing both risk and protective factors that influence different developmental outcomes.

Independent Judgment:

  • Prevent and manage youth distress in its various forms, making informed evaluations based on acquired knowledge.

Communication Skills:

  • Communicate their knowledge and skills effectively, translating them into educational intervention strategies to address situations of youth distress.

Learning Skills:

  • Acquire the theoretical and practical knowledge necessary to address major socio-relational issues related to problematic behaviors in childhood and adolescence.

Course Prerequisites

Basic knowledge of social development psychology.


Teaching Methods

The professor will use lectures, guided practical exercises, and case study analysis.

There will be interim self-assessments on the topics of the syllabus, as well as on any additional material covered during the lessons.


Assessment Methods

The assessment of competencies will be conducted through a written exam consisting of open-ended questions, with a duration of 60 minutes.

To pass the exam, students must demonstrate that they have acquired at least the fundamental knowledge related to the course content and are able to present it clearly and appropriately.

The use of textbooks, handouts, notes, or digital devices is not permitted during the exam.

The dates and times of the exam sessions will be announced on the Degree Program’s official webpage.

As this is a written exam, students are required to arrive exactly at the time specified in the official schedule.

Contents

The course provides an overview of atypical development, with particular attention to developmental trajectories related to identity. It will also explore risk factors associated with deviant trajectories (e.g., bullying, violence, and addiction), as well as psycho-educational intervention strategies aimed at addressing and/or preventing such phenomena.
