Course Objectives

Teaching guides the appropriate training to enable the training objectives indicated by the course of study to be achieved, in full harmony and coherence, within the expected period of time. In order to achieve the expected results, based on the course program and the proposed experiment, the teaching offering is divided into different activities. The objectives pursued by teaching are divided into two types described below: Qualifying training objectives and Specific training objectives.

Qualifying training objectives: knowledge, analysis, qualitative assessment and landscape design. Teaching allows students to acquire knowledge and understanding of the territory and public space for integrated design between resources, services, and new sustainable offerings. Ability to understand: The Student will acquire knowledge and understanding of the territory and urban space for integrated design between planned territorial resources and sustainable development. Ability to apply knowledge and understanding: the Student will be able to develop individual skills and independently apply knowledge and understanding of the territory for the design, valorization and optimal use of cultural heritage and landscape.

Autonomy of judgment: the Student will develop the critical capacity to independently manage the evaluation of values and risks, and the judgment on opportunities, needs and social desires for development and valorization, while respecting the protection and integrated sustainability. Communication skills: The student will acquire the ability to organize the results of applied theories of norms and real development into papers; develop appropriate communication skills to present them; and develop the ability to illustrate the cognitive method and projects. Learning skills: The Student will acquire the learning skills to continue the study, analysis and interpretation of data and implementation of opportunities independently based on the observation of the territory, its vocations to development and existing resources.

Specific training objectives: the course includes: a practical exercise for the design of an urban space for a new quality landscape. The course, through the practical exercise, aims to pursue further objectives such as: develop individual capacities and apply knowledge and understanding of the territory independently for the design, enhancement and optimal use of cultural heritage and landscape. Develop the skills to organize the results of application activities into papers and develop appropriate communication skills to present them; develop the ability to illustrate the applied method.

Course Prerequisites

Knowledge of the methodological approach to the knowledge process and the general principles of landscape planning and design are important prerequisites.

The expertise of the phases that characterize the decision-making process is useful.

At the beginning of the course, discussions with students are planned to understand their level of knowledge of the topics that will be covered in the course. In the initial phase, the students' basic notions will be verified and a period dedicated to the alignment of the basic theoretical notions is still planned. Care and attention will be paid to adapting the training to the legal definitions and disciplinary terms of reference, in order to allow the program to be further developed and to be able to offer everyone the fundamental elements that allow the course to be carried out and to be able to continue in a clear and homogeneous way.

In the event that the deficiencies are found to be serious, it will be communicated to the Coordinator so as to identify the appropriate recovery methods.

Teaching Methods

Course structure and teaching:

Teaching will be organized through lectures, seminars with experts in related disciplines, project exercises, checks, and surveys in the area. The traditional teaching method will be used, integrated with online research materials and technological tools, as well as classroom/in-class exercises to prepare final papers. The exercise allows you to apply what is indicated by frontal teaching in the theoretical field to a real study context. Provision is made for the possibility of carrying out the exercises either with individual work or in a group.

There are ongoing reviews, with only the final evaluation.

Type of training activities: Provision is made for 60 hours of teaching, including 48 hours of classroom lectures; no. 12 classroom exercises.

Student self-employment: research and study insights on bibliography: 35 hours; preparation worked: n.35 hours; exam preparation: n.20 hours.

Assessment Methods

Restrictions for accessing the exam:

OBLIGATION OF N.3 REVISIONS

Exam type:

The exam consists of an oral exam on the topics covered in the course, the evaluation of which affects the total grade by 50%, as well as an illustration of the practice papers, the evaluation of which affects the total grade by 50%.

Evaluation criteria:

• 30 - 30 cum laude: Good ability to conceive and develop the planning and territorial development process, in an original and reproducible way; ability to formulate original judgments and evaluations; excellent language and communication skills;

• 26-29: Comprehensive ability to conceive and develop the planning process with innovative contents; ability to apply acquired knowledge and to formulate judgements; good ability to articulate a specialized discourse also through different communicative registers;

• 22 - 25: Sufficient ability to conceive and develop a planning process with elements of innovation; basic ability to apply the acquired knowledge and to formulate judgments, as well as to articulate a specialized discourse;

• 18-21: Minimal ability to conceive and develop a planning process with elements of innovation, to apply acquired knowledge and formulate judgements, as well as minimal presentation and communication skills;

• insufficient: severe difficulties in designing and developing a planning process; strong training gaps; inability to apply the acquired knowledge; inappropriate language

1_ DESCRIPTION. The main topics covered during the course constitute the essential theoretical references for the knowledge process necessary for the final phase of the design exercise. In summary, the course proposes theoretical references and practical application guidelines for the classification and application of design elements for urban spaces and landscapes. The landscape is the visible expression of space. The course is structured on the knowledge of the basic definitions of the landscape and the related European directives and Italian standards, established for the protection, enhancement and design. Legitimized by legal instruments, the course has as its objective to guide the qualitative analysis and evaluation of territorial contexts, in order to redevelop or regenerate and therefore, design new urban spaces that become quality landscapes.

The specific objective of the course is to deal with the process of knowledge suitable for regenerating urban spaces and for designing new quality landscapes. The oriented analyses make it possible to identify the resources and territorial problems on which to intervene in order to design the territory for sustainable development according to the indications of the current directives.

2_ COURSE PROGRAM. The topics covered in the theoretical lessons are divided into three disciplinary fields. The first area concerns knowledge of the regulatory legal framework for defining the landscape and the implementing tools. The second area concerns the process of understanding the territory, urban spaces and landscape. History of the city and cognitive interpretation of the elements that characterize the landscape. The third area concerns the strategic planning process according to the method of defining objectives, evaluated qualitatively, and organizing strategies and design choices for the quality landscape. The topic of the practical exercise, necessary to complete the course, is chosen in line with the theoretical areas covered and involves assigning a case study and then analyzing the state of the locations for a knowledge process organized into systems; evaluating resources and risks; and proposing project directions for the sustainable development of the case study. Any additional activities are planned, including site inspections and the application of local practices; in addition, seminars and workshops with experts from other related disciplines or external entities (companies, organizations, and businesses).

3_ EXPECTED RESULTS . Knowledge and comprehension skills: The Student will acquire knowledge and comprehension skills of the territory and urban space for integrated planning and sustainable development.

Ability to apply knowledge and understanding: The Student will be able to develop individual skills and independently apply theoretical knowledge and understanding of the territory for the design, protection, and enhancement of cultural heritage and landscape.

Autonomy of judgment: the Student will develop the critical capacity to independently manage the evaluation of values and risks, and the judgment on opportunities, needs and social desires for development and valorization, while respecting the protection and integrated sustainability.

Communication skills: The Student will acquire the ability to organize the norm and implementation of reality into experimental papers, theory. The results of the experimental activities will enable the development of appropriate communication skills; furthermore, it will develop the ability to illustrate the knowledge method and projects.

Learning skills: The Student will acquire the learning skills to continue the study, analysis and interpretation of data and implementation of opportunities independently based on the observation of the territory, its vocations to development and existing resources.

More information

The first lesson of the course is devoted to illustrating the ways in which the course is conducted; introducing the theoretical topics, practical exercises and modalities and giving indications on the evaluation criteria. In addition, useful basic knowledge will be introduced and recalled to better develop course topics and topics of particular interest that students need to know, for example by reviewing some topics in recommended textbooks or other teaching materials provided. The methods of organizing the course and the exam and the requirement for a minimum of 3 reviews will be clarified immediately. The final evaluation will consist of the theoretical discussion, the illustration of the exercise papers and the related report. A weekly schedule is indicated for student reception, as well as providing availability on occasions agreed upon via email with students and non-attended students. Students unable to attend will have to agree with the teacher on the appropriate working methods or in any case what is necessary to be able to take the exam.
