Knowledge and understanding of the theoretical and practical aspects of the course subject. This knowledge will be acquired through participation in lectures and independent work carried out by the student.

Applied knowledge and understanding (Dublin descriptor 2)

Ability to apply the theoretical knowledge acquired in the development of the project.

Ability to interpret the knowledge acquired and use it in design practice.

Communication skills (Dublin descriptor 4)

Ability to communicate the development of the project both verbally and graphically.

Learning skills (Dublin descriptor 5)

Ability to learn the theoretical and practical content developed within the course.

Course Prerequisites

In order to take the exam, students must have taken and passed the Architectural Composition 2 exam.

Teaching Methods

1. TYPE OF TRAINING ACTIVITIES:

Lectures: (hours/year in the classroom): 15

Exercises: (hours/year in the classroom): 25

Practical activities: (hours/year in the classroom): 20

The course will consist of lectures and exercises/assignments. Teaching will mainly take place in the classroom. The deadlines and topics of the exercises will be binding and no materials will be accepted after the established dates. Project assistance will end with the end of the course.

In accordance with the teaching calendar, the course will be held in the second semester.

2. INDEPENDENT STUDY

1 CFU = 25 hours (10 hours of classroom teaching - 15 hours of independent study)

The independent work that students will undertake includes:

First phase. Appropriation of the theme of the year.

This phase is intended to deepen knowledge of the various theories that have shaped the history of architecture.

Second phase, Final phase.

This phase is exclusively dedicated to the development of the individual essay.

Assessment Methods

Based on performance and the completion of exercises, as well as verification of the minimum attendance requirement (at least 70% attendance in the workshop is required to be eligible for the final exam).

The exam will focus on the discussion of the individual essay prepared. The final mark will be based on the assessment of the student's ability to develop appropriate reflections on the critical issues of the architectural debate addressed in the theoretical lessons.

The exam cannot be taken separately from the Architectural Design 1 exam, which is part of the same workshop.

The grade, expressed in thirtieths, will be assigned based on the level of achievement of the expected results according to the Dublin indicators.

1_DESCRIPTION

The course, which takes place at the end of the first three years of study, aims to train student architects in the use of architectural design tools as an interpretative mechanism capable of restoring an image of reality, not through a theory in itself, but as a critical text consisting of a series of questions. Through a series of theoretical studies on the evolution of the idea of design, students will be guided in the preparation of their own essay in the form of a drawing.

2_COURSE PROGRAMME

The theme of the course is the relationship between the methods and forms of architectural design, from conception to realisation.

Organised into lectures and seminars, the course will follow a thematic rather than chronological approach, exploring the landscapes inhabited by the ideal nuclei of architectural design concepts and the formal visions they have produced since the beginning of the last century.

The course, which is integrated into the third-year Architectural Design Laboratory, will intertwine with Architectural Design in a relationship of comparison that is hoped to be one of mutual questioning, which should be evident in the construction of the project. The aim is to begin to build a first core of knowledge or at least an awareness of its necessity in constructing one's own personal cognitive tool.

3_EXPECTED RESULTS

At the end of the course, students should have an awareness of:

- The thinking that anticipates and constructs the project

- Its relationship with form

Seminar work will be individual.
