Advancing Accountability for International Crimes through Universal Jurisdiction: Challenges for the European Union and its Member States and Proposals for Action (UNIJUR)
Progetto UNIJUR is a two-year research project funded by the European Union under the NextGenerationEU recovery instrument and led by Professors Marina Mancini (Principal Investigator, Mediterranean University of Reggio Calabria) and Raffaella Nigro (Associate Investigator, University Magna Graecia of Catanzaro).
UNIJUR has the following objectives:
1. to identify obstacles and constraints to universal jurisdiction investigations and prosecutions over international crimes in EU Member States;
2. to provide a critical assessment of the EU mechanisms supporting national authorities in their exercise of universal jurisdiction;
3. to develop a comprehensive set of proposals to: (a) facilitate universal jurisdiction investigations and prosecutions in EU Member States; (b) increase EU support for national authorities exercising universal jurisdiction.
