Regenerative processes Enhancement to Address decision makers toward Climate-proof Transition of southern metropolitan areas

Project
The general objective of the proposal is to activate regenerative processes in Southern metropolitan areas in order to address and support Public Administrations (PA) in the transition towards climate-proof assets. The specific objective is the articulation of a framework for the development of strategic visions for climate adaptation in carbon and climate neutral scenarios, based on integrated climate adaptation actions (Research Unit - RU University of Naples Federico II- NA), climate mitigation (Research Unit – RU University of Studies of Palermo - PA), and on regenerative processes and digital assets (Research Unit - RU Università Mediterranea di Reggio Calabria - RC). The research is divided into 3 levels: i) Level I - Dialogue and coordination with the Metropolitan Cities of the localities involved, other local authorities and stakeholders; ii) Level II - Projections, forecasting tools and strategic regenerative and human and environmental- centred visions for climate scenarios to 2030 and 2050; iii) Level III - Framework for PAs to accompany the development of strategic visions for climate adaptation in carbon and climate neutrality scenarios. The framework will support and guide PAs in the implementation of regenerative processes, decarbonization and transition towards climate proof frameworks in urban settlements. The first part identifies the constraints, barriers and skills gaps that hinder PA policies, particularly those of the Metropolitan Cities involved in the project, from transitioning to climate proof urban settlements. This activity is aimed at defining ‘capacity building MOOC’ modules for PA officials/technicians and other stakeholders involved in the process. The second part defines taxonomies, contexts, scenarios, strategies, applications and impacts for the development of alternative design scenarios for cities at 2030, 2050 (and 2085) to support PAs.
