New languages to guarantee gender equality

Chapter
Publication Date:
2020
abstract:
Mediterranea University of Reggio Calabria has for some time been engaged in actions to combat discrimination, with particular reference to gender discrimination. An important testimony of the commitment to promoting the culture of overcoming stereotypes and prejudices related to gender is the issue of the document entitled "Indications for a use of language that respects differences", approved with Rector's Decree no. 352 dated 21/12/2018 and drawn up with the contribution of the Single Guarantee Committee for equal opportunities, as part of Horizon 2020 research and innovation program "Gender equality in Engineering through Communication and Commitment". The project intends to promote a use of the Italian language that respects all differences, in particular that of gender in the various areas of the daily life of the academic community (events, administrative texts, communications). At the same time, together with the careful use of language, it urges the use of balanced and representative images of all the different components that combine to form a free, open and inclusive academic community.
