27. Emozioni del mare. Note per un pensiero ecologico

The emotion of the sea, the emotion felt swimming or simply look- ing at that endless expanse of water, open, free, never firm, that touches the earth but is close to the sky with which one touches in the same distant point of the horizon. Since the sea is the mother, to make itself water, to make itself sea, we must therefore go down, regress, practice the thalassical regression. This can happen sleeping, with the unconscious but also with reason, as long as this abandons, for a moment, the imperialism of binary logic, the logic of separating to hierarchies. This type of binary logic, typically “civil”, terrestrial and western, often manly, must go into the water because in the water you can fluidity, soften, maybe start dancing or swimming to make room for another logic, logic submerged in the aesthetic, Dionysian, “wild” depths: the tragic logic, the logic of the ma- terial imagination, the symbolic imagination that in fact comes from the sea.
