The author presents an overview of phytocoenotic diversity in Southern Italy from the phytogeographic
and phytosociological point of view. The ecological, chorological, floristic and
structural characteristics of the natural plant communities occurring in this area are examined.
The remarkable phytosociological diversity is correlated with the bioclimatic and geomorphologic
features of the territory.
