The performance of an ”active” submerged breakwater by a cfd analysis

Conference Paper
Publication Date:
2019
Short description:
The performance of an ”active” submerged breakwater by a cfd analysis / Filianoti, P., Gurnari, L.. - (2019).
abstract:
The main challenge in building submerged breakwaters consists in guaranteeing the effectiveness of the breakwater, in terms of coast protection, achieving the maximum submergence. In this work, we carried out a numerical experiment on a submerged breakwater that incorporates an Oscillating Water column device (named REWEC1), able to work 2-3 meters below the sea water level. Results were compared with the performance of a submerged impermeable breakwater that represents the ’passive’ configuration of a REWEC1 (Filianoti and Gurnari, 2018). Results show the capability of the plant to modify the wave field around itself, but not to reduce significantly the waves transmission, for the considered incoming wave train
