Pianificazione territoriale paesaggistica e sostenibilità dello sviluppo. Studi per il Quadro Territoriale Regionale della Calabria

This book describes the experience of study and research developed for the drafting of the Territorial regional plan (QTR / P) of the Calabria region in the period 2007-2010. This illustration is developed in the light of a specific key, consisting of the foreshadowing of a perspective of sustainable local development based on the protection and enhancement of local environmental resources and landscape. The book, then, illustrates the general philosophy that has guided the design choices, examining them in the light of specific issues: the role of major urban systems as engines of development and the centrality of urban regeneration policies; the protection and enhancement of natural areas, the development of rural areas, etc..; all aspects, however, due to the one common thread, namely the link between territory, landscape and local development.
The text is divided into two parts, the first dedicated to the aspects related to the issues of land and environment, the second dedicated to the theme of the protection and enhancement of the landscape. Such a distinction is to be understood as merely instrumental, as it separates, for the sake of simplicity, themes and issues that are in fact closely interrelated, having been the integration of land and landscape the first choice made in setting up QTR / P.
The contributions included in the text address the main themes that characterize the system of QTR / P (the role of urban systems as an engine of development policies; the protection of natural resources and the environment, the mitigation of natural risks, the policies for conservation and enhancement of historical heritage, the development of agricultural areas, etc..), placing each theme within the broader scientific debate nationally and internationally.
With this work the authors intend to contribute to the general debate about the social and economic development of the “Mezzogiorno”of Italy, that must become again the center of the cultural and political debate in our country.
