Regenerating the City: Spaces and Strategies as Urban Responses to Social and Climatic Crises / Monteleone, V., Rizzo, M.T., Stagno, E.. - (2026), pp. 161-167. [10.1007/978-3-032-17498-7_20]
abstract:
This study highlights the importance of an integrated and systemic approach to urban regeneration, with particular emphasis on strengthening ecological networks and spatial typologies to enhance territorial resilience, social cohesion, and well-being in urban areas. Through a critical review of the literature and the analysis of empirical cases at both national and international levels, it is demonstrated how Nature-Based Solutions (NbS) and ecosystem-inspired designs can contribute to mitigating the effects of climate change and reducing urban vulnerabilities. The integration of such solutions not only promotes greater environmental sustainability but also fosters a rethinking of urban policies that goes beyond the mere aesthetic value of greenery, encouraging resilient and innovative interventions. Moreover, the study underscores the importance of inclusive and multidisciplinary policies capable of actively engaging local communities, improving the quality of urban life, and enhancing the resilience of cities in the face of emerging climate and social challenges.
