abstract:
The studies presented in these pages are part of those scientific opportunities and design at the same time, which a designer or a team properly prepared may be called upon to answer in the act of unifying solution to a long distinctly technical, such as purely static structural, and architectural formal proposal as it rarely happens.
With all due differences, and by the way, is an operation that does resurface powerfully to the memory of the writer traces of academic studies done under the guidance of Cesare De Seta where operations have made similar motivation to build wealth in the history of two well other occasions design: the Malatesta Temple (San Francesco) at Rimini by Leon Battista Alberti and Palazzo della Ragione at Vicenza by Andrea Palladio better known as "Palladian Basilica".
In these two buildings are new forms arising from a purely technical committee: the structural reinforcement of two buildings in a state of suffering to the static point of risking the collapse in the absence of timely corrective actions. In both cases, such as Palladio, Alberti worked through the implementation of a new "skin" that would run from volume element containing the horizontal thrusts made from shells, the walls gave no sign of wanting to stand up. In the case of the Church, indeed, the reinforcement has been transformed into a series of functional areas outside the old building so as to form a porch on the ground floor, now known and practiced by all, the point of becoming itself, and finally, a sign distinctive building to which the literature has found its proper place as one of the best examples of humanism, in the words of Rudolf Wittkower1.
These describe two interventions operated in the territory of the town of Lamezia Terme in Calabria pursuant to a request for consultancy experience within the relationship that the municipality has decided to establish with the University "Mediterranea" of Reggio Calabria and in particular with the Department of Mechanics and Materials, to work alongside the preliminary designs for the pre owned their own verification of static stability of buildings.
The first is the building of the former convent of San Domenico place in the square inside the historic center of the town of Lamezia, and the second is the building of any historical and architectural value, used as a covered market place in the central area up area of Sambiase.
