Il disegno delle vibrazioni

Book
Publication Date:
2013
Short description:
Il disegno delle vibrazioni / Brandolino, Rosario; Mediati, Domenico. - (2013).
abstract:
Musical instruments are not simple "vibrant mechanisms" but they have hidden formal and evocative qualities inside that go far beyond their sound function. They are objects with sometimes complex mechanics; expressions of empirical cultures; manifestations of craft skills; instinctive revelations of artistic vocations; spontaneous narrations of ethnic and tribal cultures; references to symbolic and mythological universes; unconscious studies of "topological” forms that, in an evident derivation from the forms of nature, replicate the spontaneous vocation to the production or transmission of sound. To analyze shapes, patterns, decorations, materials and the mechanical of sound instruments, means tracing a path through history, mythology, material, empirical and figurative culture of peoples. It is to witness the convergence of multiple artistic and craft expressions, revealed, on the inconstant wave of the sound, from a patient multisensory search to obtain the elusive fruits of the "drawing of the vibrations". The volume collects and elaborates some thoughts about music, art, myth, geometry, architecture resulting from the didactic and research practices carried out by the University "Mediterranea" of Reggio Calabria. The instruments, surveyed and drawn by the students, belong to the collection of the Museum of Musical Instruments of Reggio Calabria.
