La prototipazione per una fruizione aptica delle collezioni museali / Prototyping for a haptic fruition of museum collections

This chapter addresses the topic of prototyping aimed at the tactile fruition of museum collections, with reference to the work carried out by the research group of the Università degli Studi “Mediterranea” of Reggio Calabria as part of a project developed for the removal of physical, cognitive and sensorial barriers in the Museo archeologico eoliano “Luigi Bernabò Brea” in Lipari. Starting from a quick review of the state of the art relating to the experiences developed by some museums and some of the most advanced studies on the discipline, we have highlighted the key elements that are the basis of effective tactile fruition in the museum context, identified starting from the needs of the blind carried out through experimental models. Subsequently, the study examines the problems related to the reproduction of copies relating to works of art, identifying four homogeneous categories based on the difficulties that may emerge during the haptic perception of the same. The final part of the work is a synthetic account of the work carried out by the research group at the Lipari Museum: the survey, the graphic restitution and the 3d print of thirty-four finds (twenty-six masks, six statuettes and two prehistoric bowls). The 3d print was made with an fdm printer and white pla material, in 1 : 1 scale. The printing criteria followed were aimed at producing an analogic copy of the finds as close as possible to reality, not neglecting to reproduce the internal surfaces.
