abstract:
The earthen architecture of southern Morocco represents a singular example of material heritage in a Mediterranean context. They are vernacular architectures, smoothed by the passage of time, in forms and typology; they are the tangible and fragile manifestations of a culture that has entrusted construction to oral tradition and symbolic apparatuses typical of native communities. A synergy of balances held together by the wisdom of man. The four main rivers of southern Morocco: Draa, Dades, Ziz, and Todhra are subject of the project presented; along the banks of these rivers, 123 tighremt and igherm were identified and catalogued, 24 were documented with a direct survey, 10 were detected with multimedia instruments. The protection and valorisation project involves the analysis of a case study, the Draa Valley, as a model that can be replicated in the other three areas. A ‘cognitive walkthrough’ strategy is proposed to monitor, and at the same time make digitally usable, some architecture located in the most remote areas of the Draa Valley. The project called Draa_in_Cloud involves the definition of an app that guides the user on his path to discovering and safeguarding the assets in question. The app, through engaging and intuitive graphics, guides the tourist who, through the devices, is able to implement the data relating to the current state of affairs. The images taken under the guidance of the app allow you to reconstruct, through photogrammetry, the morphology of the asset and monitor its state of conservation in real time. The user thus not only participates in the protection and documentation process but contributes to increasing visibility and knowledge for a vast public of architecture that would otherwise be difficult to access.
