abstract:
This paper explores the critical role of artificial intelligence (AI) as a strategic frontier in the geopolitical and economic competition between the West, led by the United States, and emerging global powers, particularly China. It situates the current AI rivalry within a broader historical and economic context marked by shifting paradigms in globalisation, technological innovation, and power dynamics. The discussion highlights how AI development is reshaping global value chains, fostering new economic and social structures, and intensifying the dualism between the United States and China. Emerging economies, including the BRICS and African nations, are identified as pivotal players in the evolving multipolar world order. This study also examines the implications of AI for national security, economic strategies, and global governance, emphasising the need for multilateral cooperation to address the risks and opportunities of this transformative technology. By analysing recent developments and future projections, the paper contributes to understanding AI’s role in shaping the 21st century’s geopolitical landscape.
