Meccanizzazione agricola in Calabria

In this paper, after reviewing the main results determined by technology in the field of agricultural mechanization and the social and economic consequences in the last decades for our Country, a wide investigation about agricultural mechanization in Calabria in the period 1985-1994 has been carried out; data collected have been compared with national data. Furthermore, the main factors characterizing rural land in Southern Italy and in Calabria and affecting negatively the development of agricultural mechanization have been highlighted. Among them we can mention: little width and breaking up to farms into small plots, bad road conditions, high steepness of slopes, irregular layout of planting, etc. Afterwards, we have analysed the different trend of Italian and Calabrian fleet of agricultural machines in order to survey the categories of the machines available on the markets. At the end of the present research, our attention has been drawn to the present trend of the registration of agricultural machines and the conditions which in the future can assure a further development of the mechanization in Calabria
