The grecanic area includes the territory of several municipalities in the province of Reggio Calabria: Bagaladi, Bova, Brancaleone, Condofuri, Melito Porto Salvo, Palizzi, Roccaforte del Greco, Roghudi, San Lorenzo, Staiti and the municipality of Reggio Calabria. More complex is the identification of the area in which realy persist to this day small groups who speak Grecanico. They are often characterized by particular conditions of location which led to a closing out and resulted in a socio-economic "regime" virtually self-sufficient. Some of the centers are now totally abandoned as Roghudi Vecchio, Ghorìo di Roghudi, Amendolea Vecchia and the most famous Pentedattilo.
