Short description:
L'ARCHITETTURA DELLE PIETRE, TRA PERMANENZA STORICA E NUOVI INTERVENTI IN AREA SALENTINA / DI CHIO, Angelo. - (In corso di stampa).
abstract:
The author of these lines has been able to deal with a particular "territory" of Italian architecture that is constantly changing its buildings yet retains all the historical modality of construction: Salento. This is an area of southern Italian territory that still combines the innovative capability of contemporary construction with the ancient knowledge of stone construction techniques. The technical knowledge remains unchanged: eternal operational ability is up to the current construction yards in the certainty of being able to juxtapose the stones, transferring the loads and leading to the ground.
This "non-consumption" of resources and this feeling of "belonging" are full of meanings: the stone is mined, cut, processed, laying on the ground in most respect of its features. Cultural traditions, drawn from historical materials of Salento’s architectures and always usable to be reinvested in architecture and landscape heritage, remain unchanged.
