L'acqua come corpo mutevole nella città. Il fiume come forma della terra. Water as a Changing Body. River as Shape of the Earth.

Chapter
Publication Date:
2022
abstract:
The contribution reflects on the re-appropriation of riverfront in the contemporary city through an idea of infrastructure - roads, embankments, canals, dams, and cabling networks - as a spatial device endowed with architectural and landscape quality, not only of a technical nature, capable of intersecting functions, uses and scales, building spaces that establish interactions with places. The watercourse, interpreted as a body in the natural and urban landscape with a changing shape, through the banks, the edges, the soil that bathes, crosses, invades and shapes, can be taken as a strategic trajectory in the contemporary architectural debate on the city. The ENABLE research develops on these reflections, connected to the didactic experimentation carried out in the H2O_Scapes Thesis Atelier − Fragile Territories: Environment, Risk and Climate Change, which explores the symbolic, urban and environmental role of river courses in urban regeneration strategies, trying to develop an operational methodology that is as transmissible and replicable as possible in different contexts. The research identifies the field of the project in the landscape, proposing the idea of a horizontal city as a system of places in which the value of the landscape-territory is intertwined with that of collective use, places where the characteristics of Agro Urbe Natura coexist. The contribution is part of the first volume "H2O_Scapes: Agro Urbe Natura" in the editorial series of the research ENABLE - Embedding collaborative platform for upskilling and networking toward sustainable cities - Call 2019 Erasmus + Round 1KA2 (Cooperation for innovation and the exchange of good practices KA203, Strategic Partnerships for higher education).
