Ipogei sacri dedicati al culto delle acque

Chapter
Publication Date:
2015
abstract:
Comparative analysis of sacred hypogea and sacred sources in Sardinia which have already been described by survey drawings. About the source, a small stone building called Su Tempiesu has a triangular tympanum protruding from the volcanic rock wall and covering the source itself. Holy wells were as important as sacred spaces - Santa Cristina in Paulilatino and Santa Vittoria in Serri were the most famous places for water cult. Originally, the two both had a tholos coverage, (a stone false-dome) but they turned into a keyhole shape, maintaining paved vestibule and many steps that led down to the well itself. In this paper I suggest a comparative analysis in order to highlight similarities and differences between them, which are carefully described by survey drawings.
