Overview

Date/time interval

Primo Ciclo Semestrale (22/09/2025 - 05/12/2025)

Syllabus

Course Objectives

- Qualifying educational objectives: The laboratory, aims to explore the world of design / performance / communication architecture through reflections on the issues of digital culture. The common thread, which links the didactic theme to its development in the classroom, concerns the idea of combining the digital and multimedia vocation of the discipline with the proposed themes.

- Specific training objectives: achievement of the ability to grasp the relationship between man and architectural creations and between architectural creations and their environment, as well as the ability to grasp the need to adapt architectural creations and spaces to each other according to man's needs and measure.

Course Prerequisites

In order to successfully attend the course are required based computer skills in the 2D design.

Teaching Methods

COURSE STRUCTURE AND TEACHING

Lessons (ore/anno in aula):30

Exercise (ore/anno in aula):40

Pratical activities (ore/anno in aula):10

Schedule of training activities: I semester

AUTONOMOUS LEARNING OF THE STUDENT

The independent work of the student is twofold. On the one hand it is tied to the acquisition of operational skills associated with the acquisition of skills needed to carry through the homework assigned. The other is connected to discussing the issues related to conceptual insights pertaining to architecture and real to the virtual one.

-            In-depth study of the bibliography (theoretical part) 20 hours

-             Individual practice: 100 hours

-            Exam preparation: 80 hours

Assessment Methods

At the end of the lessons there will be a mandatory and binding course test for passing the final exam.

1 - The intermediate verification phases will be obtained through a series of individual revisions (from 3 November to 28 November)

2 – Final test (from 9 Dicember to 12 Dicember)

The course tests, if not exceeded, will eventually be repeatable.

Method of conducting the exam: practical test

Evaluation criteria

30–30 with honors: Production of 2D projects that demonstrate method and independent critical thinking in the interpretation and presentation of archival maps. Demonstration of full mastery of the representational techniques employed. Production of focused, comprehensive, and effective projects.

26–29: Creation of 2D projects that demonstrate a strong ability to synthesize and analyze information when interpreting and reproducing archival maps. Demonstration of a good knowledge of the used representational techniques. Creation of complete projects.

22–25: 2D projects that demonstrate a capacity for synthesis and critical analysis that is not yet fully developed but is essentially methodologically valid in the reproduction of archival maps. Demonstration of sufficient mastery in the use of the employed representational techniques. A project that meets most of the requirements through personal reinterpretation.

18–21: Creation of 2D drawings that demonstrate a partial but sufficient understanding of the techniques used to interpret and reproduce archival maps. The work produced only partially meets the requirements and shows little evidence of independent thought.

Insufficient: the work does not meet the requirements.

DESCRIPTION

The laboratory, aims to explore the world of design / performance / communication architecture through reflections on the issues of digital culture. The common thread, which links the didactic theme to its development in the classroom, concerns the idea of combining the digital and multimedia vocation of the discipline with the proposed themes. Particular attention is placed on the student's ability to decode the proposed archive documents and then redesign them using CAD, applying the specific canons of architectural representation. In short, although the course aims to develop advanced skills in 2D and 3D vector representation, particular emphasis is placed on the student's ability to fully understand the language and methods used to design/represent the architecture being studied.

COURSE PROGRAMME

The IT Skills Course, set to the first year of the Architecture Course, aims to explain to students some elements of architectural representation through the deepening of the CAD discipline.

The course lasts six-month and is divided into two distinct parts: the basic lessons of Autocad 2d and the advanced lessons 3d.

The first part of the course will be oriented to the design, in the plane and in the space, of simple objects and 2d geometric constructions.

This phase has a dual objective: 1) to acquire and systematize the procedures for using the software in a two-dimensional environment; 2) to familiarize students with the world of geometry and 2D orthogonal projections, and then apply what they have learned to render plans, elevations, and sections of the assigned architecture.

The second part also has two objectives: 1) to acquire and systematize the procedures for using the software in a three-dimensional environment; 2) to create three-dimensional geometric constructions in order to acquire the ability to organize their geometric representations in a homogeneous, isotropic, and isomorphic 3D space.

During the course, once the basic concepts have been acquired, students will be assigned their exam topic: the redrawing of an architectural structure in plans, elevations, and sections. A layout prepared by the instructor will also be assigned for presentation during the exam phase of these projects.

EXPECTED RESULTS

 Knowledge and understanding:

1) Acquisition of the individual commands and procedural strategies for digitally producing the required designs;

2) Acquisition of the basic concepts of projective geometry, such as the fundamental concepts of projection and section.

Applying knowledge and understanding:

ability to produce the required documents by applying both the indications linked to the correct application of the Design rules and those of the correct redesign of the investigated project with respect to the concepts of plan, section, elevation of a building, etc.

Making judgements:

Critical interpretation of graphic works assigned during the course.

Communication skills:

Ability to present the assigned project by identifying the correct graphic elaborations (plans, elevations, sections, axonometric views, perspectives, etc.) based on the purposes for which the building under investigation was designed.

Learning skills:

2D and 3D redrawing of the architecture assigned.
