Syllabus

Course Objectives

Knowledge about sport system


Course Prerequisites

Basic knowledge regarding the legal system and the principles of private and public law.


There are no prerequisites. First-year students attending the course will have a few hours of "basic course" on the main principles of Private law used in the Sports Law program.


Teaching Methods

Classroom lectures - Seminars featuring professionals from the sports law, sports economics, and sports management fields.


Seminars, including webinars, with faculty from other universities and representatives of the federal justice system and sports institutions.


Assessment Methods

An oral interview will be held at the end of the course.


The oral interview is focused on testing the candidate's ability to fully present the knowledge acquired and furthermore the ability to resolve theoretical and practical issues related to the management of a sports club, a sports employment contract, or the organization of a sporting event.

Students attending the course may replace the textbook with the materials used and distributed during the lessons.


Contents

Course program will focus on analyzing the main institutions of sports law, with particular attention to the changes occurred by the recent italian sport' system reform and to the marketing and management of sports clubs. It will also analyze aspects related to e-sports and the use of technology in sports.


Topics:


1) Evolution of the sporting phenomenon; sport in the 20th and 21st centuries: the history of the Olympics as a mirror of socio-economic history; sporting activity between social values ​​and market values; sportswashing as a phenomenon of political propaganda and economic promotion of local areas.


2) Regulatory evolution of the sporting phenomenon, between sport' system intra-federal regulations and Italian and EU regulations.


3) The international sports system.


4) The Italian sports system: institutions, sources and organization.


5) Subjects and bodies of the Italian sports system: CONI, CIP, FSN, DSA, EPS, Leagues, sports clubs and associations, athletes, and other individuals.


6) Sports performance as a work activity; profiles of the "new" sports work after the reform. The employment contract for athletes.


7) Roles and functions of sports agents. Sports mandate contracts.


8) Sport as a business: market-oriented management of sports clubs, sponsorship and merchandising contracts; notes on contracts for the sale of broadcasting rights.


9) Sporting activities and aspects of civil liability in activities/playing, in corporate organization, and in facility management.


10) Disputes involving sports and the sports justice system.


11) Pathological aspects of the sporting phenomenon: doping, match fixing, illegal sports betting, and violence at sporting events.


12) E-sports, use of AI in sport, and the virtual dimension of sporting activity.
