Syllabus

Course Objectives

The Business Economics course aims to provide students with knowledge in institutional theory, business economics (Part A), and accounting (Part B).


Course Prerequisites

No prerequisites are required.

Classes.


Assessment Methods

The exam is oral. Students can present their accounting records either in writing or verbally.

The assessment totals thirty points: from 18/30 to 30/30 with honors, according to the following scheme:

30 - 30 with honors: comprehensive, in-depth, and critical understanding of the course topics, excellent language skills, original interpretative ability, and full capacity to independently apply the learned knowledge;

26 - 29: thorough and detailed knowledge of the course topics, good language command, broad and effective interpretative skills, and the ability to independently apply the knowledge;

24 - 25: solid understanding of the course topics with good learning retention, reasonable language command, correct interpretative skills, and the ability to correctly apply most learned concepts;

21 - 23: adequate understanding but with some gaps, effective language skills, interpretative abilities, and limited independent application of knowledge;

18 - 20: basic understanding of main topics, basic technical language, sufficient interpretative skills, and ability to apply fundamental knowledge;

Insufficient: inadequate understanding of the course topics.

Students can study program topics in all university-level business administration (Part A) and accounting and budgeting (Part B) books. To facilitate the choice, we recommend (alternatively) the following:

Part A - 36 hours (6 credits) 

People, economic activity, business economics. Institutions and companies. Business operations and management. Institutional structures. Organizational choices. Economicity. Representation of economicity: financial statements, income, and capital. Analysis of economicity and economic value of companies. Reporting and information. Economic environment, competitive system, competitive model, and competitive advantage. Business combinations.


Part B - 36 hours (6 credits):

Accounting information systems, accounts, and double-entry bookkeeping. Chart of accounts. Accounting entries for the financial year. End-of-period and reopening entries. An overview of accounting principles.
