Course Objectives

The English university course focuses on developing advanced language skills, including reading, writing, listening, and speaking. It emphasises improving vocabulary, grammar, and comprehension through diverse texts and topics. Students work on effective communication, preparing them for professional environments requiring proficient English skills.

Course Prerequisites

The course has basic prerequisites (knowledge required for admission to the degree program):

Ability to understand a text;

oral communication skills.

Teaching Methods

My TEFL teaching methodology is centred around creating an engaging, interactive, and learner-focused environment. You emphasise the principles of communicative language teaching (CLT), which prioritise meaningful communication and real-life language use. This approach encourages students to actively participate in conversations, fostering their ability to understand and produce authentic language in various contexts.

Incorporating task-based learning (TBL), your lessons revolve around students completing practical, real-world tasks that require active language use. These tasks might include role-plays, problem-solving activities, or information-gap exercises, which promote functional language skills and boost learner motivation by making lessons relevant and purposeful.

Your methodology also heavily emphasises student-centred activities. You tailor lessons to meet learners' needs and interests, empowering students to take ownership of their learning process. Through collaborative activities, peer interaction, and personalised tasks, students develop confidence and autonomy in using English, making the learning experience more dynamic and effective.

Overall, your TEFL approach combines communicative competence, practical tasks, and learner autonomy to create an immersive and motivating language learning environment.

Assessment Methods

The final examination consists of 30 multiple-choice questions that evaluate your understanding of essential grammar topics. These questions cover various key areas, including relevant languages and vocabulary, to assess your overall language proficiency.

Texts

The main text was written by Prof. Edward Parker, but the course also uses a series of more specialized videos and presentations.
