Educational Objectives
The course aims to provide students with knowledge and theoretical-methodological tools to:
• Analyze intangible cultural heritage as a pedagogical and intercultural foundation.
• Understand the fairy tale as a formative device and a basis of European identity.
• Explore orality, ritual, and memory as educational practices in traditional communities.
• Study Grecanic cultures and their narrative, linguistic, and ritual forms.
• Experiment in the field with techniques of anthropological documentation and participatory research.

Teaching Methods
• Lectures.
• Workshops on story analysis and oral traditions.
• Seminar on intangible heritage (mandatory for attendees).
• Field lesson in the Grecanic area (optional)

Attending Students
• Active participation and Seminar on December 4: 30%
• Possible report on the itinerant lesson of December 3: 20%
• Oral exam on the texts: 50%
Non-attending Students
• Oral exam on the three mandatory texts: 100%

Course Contents
Module 1 — Intercultural Pedagogy and Intangible Heritage
• The 2003 UNESCO Convention on Intangible Cultural Heritage.
• Heritage communities, oral transmission, cultural landscapes, and education.
Module 2 — Fairy Tales as an Expression of European Identity
(Mandatory text for attendees)
• Narrative structures, pedagogical functions, symbols, and archetypes.
• European and Mediterranean fairy tales: identity, differences, cultural interweaving.
Module 3 — Oral Tradition, Memory, and Community
• Orality as pedagogy.
• Educational functions of oral storytelling.
• Rituals, laments, songs, myths in popular cultures.
Module 4 — The Grecanic Area as a Heritage Community
• Community archives, widespread museums, and safeguarding practices.
• Field research methods: observation, interviews, documentation.
Special activities
Mandatory seminar – December 4
