KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING
• Knowledge and understanding of the chronological and conceptual foundations of the sociology of education and the family, including the history of educational institutions and family policies in Italy and in the international context.
• Knowledge of the main sociological theories relating to education and the family and their authors, with a focus on the dynamics of socialization, social stratification, and the role of formal and informal institutions.
ABILITY TO APPLY KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING
• Ability to establish links between social, cultural, political, and economic events and contexts and their effects on educational systems and family structures.
• Ability to identify similarities and differences between different sociological theories of education and the family, as well as between different educational practices and family models.
INDEPENDENT JUDGMENT
• At the end of the course, students will have acquired the analytical tools necessary to develop critical thinking skills regarding the main sociological theories of education and the family, socialization processes, and educational and family practices.
• With regard to the history of Italian educational and family institutions, students will be able to critically rework the knowledge they have acquired and formulate their own interpretative hypotheses on the transformations of educational systems and family structures.
COMMUNICATION SKILLS
• Acquire and be able to use appropriately, in different communicative and educational contexts, sociological terminology related to education and the family, with particular attention to key concepts such as socialization, role, educational function, social and cultural capital.
LEARNING SKILLS
• Students must have developed, with a high degree of autonomy, the learning skills necessary for continuous professional development and critical analysis of contemporary educational and family phenomena.
Fundamentals of Sociology and Education
Lectures, reading of recommended texts and, where applicable, teaching materials provided by the instructor.
Oral exam with a grade expressed in thirtieths. In addition to knowledge and understanding of the content related to the teaching program, presentation skills will also be assessed.

The course aims to promote knowledge of the fundamental themes, issues, and concepts of the sociology of education and the family and their cultural, epistemological, and methodological context, with a view to training educators, social workers, and education professionals.
Specifically, the course is divided into two parts:
The first, more substantial part will be devoted to the historical and theoretical development of the main educational and family models, analyzing socialization processes, family dynamics, and the main sociological theories of education and family.
The second part will be devoted to the analysis of Italian educational systems and family structures, with particular attention to the social and cultural transformations that have influenced their functioning.
