Abstract:
Forest soils under different vegetal cover (Fagus sylvatica, L. and Pinnus laricio, P., ssp calabrica) were analysed with regard to phenolic compounds and humic substances. Highest concentrations of total phenols and humic carbon were found in soil supporting Pinus laricio. The polyphenols were positively correlated with organic matter content of the soil; the C/N ratio suggested that a better humification process occurs under Pinus. The soil under Pinus shows the best condition of fertility; hormone-like effects of humic substances and phenols support these results.
