abstract:
During the experiment performed in 1991, the wave mechanics in front of a vertical wall has been investigated for the first time in a real sea. The objective has been to verify the predictions on the dynamics of high waves (the most dangerous) attaching the structure. At this purpose, 30 instruments were employed in front of a reflecting breakwater 12 m long, built in the “Lido Comunale” sea. In addition, the behavior of the structure was investigated. Indeed, the structure of a 1:30 scaled model of a prototype designed with innovative methodologies. The prototype has a weight-per-meter equal to the one of the Genoa-Cornigliano breakwater (550t/m in water), but it is more enterprising: the water depth is more than twice (45m vs 18m) the one of Genoa-Cornigliano, level of the upper side with respect the mean water level more the three times the original one (20m vs 6m).
