Antonio Liborio Raspantini e Giovan Battista Contini ai SS. Venanzio e Ansovino a Roma. Storia e vicende architettoniche e costruttive di una chiesa scomparsa

The essay traces the architectural history of the church dedicated to the Saints Venanzio and Ansovino in Rome, from 1674 until its demolition in 1928. The analysis of the unpublished archival records and in particular that relating to the phases of the entire restructuring of the sacred building, made it possible to put toghether its original image, identifying plastic and architectural elements that composed the interior and the front of the church. The architect Antonio Liborio Raspantini was the planner of the total renovation of the original building, carried out from 1695 to1706, while the planning of the major chapel with the high altar, is definitely attributed to Giovan Battista Contini, on commission of the marchioness Girolama Bichi Ruspoli, completed between1702 and 1731. The archival records, even if in the absence of drawings, traces all the building and ornamental phases of the chapel, and describes the rich composition of the family chapel where was placed the paintings of Luigi Garzi and Agostino Masucci.
