The Role of Artificial Intelligence for the Improvement and Management of Global Value Chains

Over the past 30 years, the global economy has undergone rapid and radical phases of change, much more so than in the past. Indeed, we are witnessing an economic paradigm shift (to be fair, not only in the economy), where we have moved from a relatively closed world to one that is increasingly open to international trade and investment. A world in which everything that in the past had represented a physical and psychological boundary is crumbling, shrinking, shortening. Whereas in the past, geographic, linguistic, cultural, time zone, regulatory, political, and economic distances posed difficulties in international trade and/or investment, today, thanks to both technological progress and geopolitical events, this has been greatly reduced. We generally call this phenomenon globalisation. Among the many innovations that globalisation has brought about and continues to bring about in all areas of human endeavour, we also find a paradigm shift in industrial production.
