Scavi e scoperte a Reggio Calabria nei taccuini di Paolo Orsi. Il rapporto della missione di Luigi Giarratano del 1915

After the earthquake of 1908, Reggio Calabria has experienced decades of reconstruction, which completely changed the image of the city. These activities led to numerous archaeological discoveries, relating to all phases of the ancient city. These have been intense years for Paolo Orsi who, directly from his Syracuse office, tried to report and safeguard each and every discovery, while being often assisted by trusted collaborators. The diaries kept by Orsi, held at the “P. Orsi” Regional Archaeological Museum in Syracuse, are an inexhaustible source of information on those years. The purpose of this contribution is the publication of the report drawn up by Luigi Giarratano, who had been sent by Orsi to Reggio Calabria between 1915 and the beginning of 1916. Not only it contains a series of information that has remained unpublished until now, but also it allowed the recontextualization of some items preserved at the National Archaeological Museum of Reggio Calabria, previously without precise provenance data.
